Bluebonnets, for those of you not priveleged enough to live in the state of Texas, are our state flower. They're in the lupine family, and are about 8" tall, so you stand ankle deep in a big sea of blue and white flowers during a good year- and this was, at least up in North Texas. (Down in central Texas, where my grandparents live, the bluebonnets were out this year but not as dense as in these photos.) Ladybird Johnson (LBJ's wife) had a project to seed lots of the roadsides in Texas with wildflowers, so they're ALL over the place. Ennis is one of the hillier parts of north Texas (that's kind of like saying that a rain forest is a bit dry, our hills would be other places' very small ridges. :P) so you basically come over each hill to find huge big fields of solid blue- it's really amazing.
